ABE_Composer_edited.jpg

Abe Pogos has worked primarily as a scriptwriter since graduating from the VCA School of Drama in 1984. His plays have been staged at major venues including The Athenaeum, The Malthouse, and The Sydney Opera House, often exploring themes of social justice, such as racism (ESCAPE FROM THE LIVING DEAD), genocide (THE ART OF WALKING), and intimate partner violence (BURN FOR YOU). His writing credits also include ABC Radio Drama and Australian television series such as STINGERS, SOMETHING IN THE AIR, BLUE HEELERS, ALWAYS GREENER, MDA, and PACKED TO THE RAFTERS.

Abe has written three feature films: COMPO, SUGAR MOUNTAIN, and BROKEN GHOST all of which have screened at film festivals in Australia and internationally. In recent years, he has expanded into composition, collaborating with Catherine Hill on three original music theatre pieces and composing incidental music for various productions. He also wrote the film score for SOME HAPPY DAY (2022), a feature film about homelessness, which he co-produced.

Currently, Abe is completing a Master’s degree at Deakin University, developing UNTIMELY RIPPED, a transmedia narrative that explores trauma, memory, and identity through the lens of an alien abduction story.
